Carla Sunberg is a general superintendent in the Church of the Nazarene (2017) and was ordained on the Russia North District where she and her husband, Chuck, served for 13 years as pioneer missionaries to the former Soviet Union. Upon their return to the USA, they pastored Grace Point Church of the Nazarene (Fort Wayne, Indiana) and then served as co-district superintendents of the East Ohio District Church of the Nazarene until Carla’s election as President of Nazarene Theological Seminary in 2014. Carla is a graduate of MidAmerica Nazarene University (Nursing), Nazarene Theological Seminary, (MA, Theological Studies), and The University of Manchester (PhD, Historical Theology), and has an honorary doctorate from Olivet Nazarene University. Her books include Reflecting the Image: Our Call to Mirror Christ in the World and The Cappadocian Mothers among others. The Sunbergs have two married daughters and two granddaughters.

Albert Hung is District Superintendent of the Northern California District Church of the Nazarene. Prior to this assignment, he was lead pastor of Trinity Church, a multi-site, multi-congregational church serving the English, Spanish, Chinese, and Filipino communities east of Los Angeles, California. After several years in the entertainment business as a stage director, recording artist, and television host, Albert received a call from the Lord to pastoral ministry in 2003 while serving as a missionary in Taipei, Taiwan. He speaks frequently on the topics of preaching, cross-cultural ministry, leadership development, and the future of the church. Albert is married to Christine, who serves at Trinity Church of the Nazarene as the Rowland Heights Campus Pastor. They have four children: Elijah, Micaela, Genevieve, and Nathaniel.

Keith Newman is President of Southern Nazarene University. Before his election to that office in 2017, he was Chancellor of Indiana Wesleyan University where he had also served in other capacities. Previous to these assignments, he was Vice President for University Relations at Mount Vernon Nazarene University following seventeen years in pastoral ministry including senior pastorates in Houston, Texas and San Diego, California. Before entering the ministry, Keith served nine years with the Houston Police Department as an officer in the Radio Patrol and Juvenile Divisions and as a sergeant in the Homicide Division. Keith is a graduate of Houston Baptist University (BA, History and Christianity), Southern Nazarene University (Masters of Ministry), and Spalding University (EdD). Keith and his wife, Carolyn, have two children, Andy and Alana.

Workshops

Vocational ministry is a challenging profession, too often leading to ministry fatigue and burnout. This discussion brings hope, encouragement, and practical suggestions for pastors ready for an honest conversation on their mental, physical and spiritual well-being. Bring both a listening ear and your questions as you participate in a learning dialog with a panel comprised of a clinical psychologist, an educator and former district superintendent, and a pastor.

Jake Edwards serves as Lead Pastor of New Beginnings Church of the Nazarene, Lee's Summit, MO. His journey in vocational ministry has included some formative lessons regarding mental health and well-being. ministerio con la Fundación Teológica, 2002.

Margaret Murray is a Licensed Professional Counselor and a licensed Marital and Family Therapist in the State of Oklahoma in private practice. Previously, she was Executive Director of the Samaritan Counseling Center in Shreveport, LA and has been a pastor's wife for over 40 years and a therapist for 30 years. Margaret has served as adjunct faculty in the Graduate in Counseling program at SNU and worked in the SNU Counseling Center.

Jeren Rowell is president of Nazarene Theological Seminary, Kansas City. Prior to his election, he served as district superintendent of the Kansas City District (2005-2017) following fourteen years as senior pastor of the Church of the Nazarene in Shawnee, Kansas. He is an author and a well-known speaker.

Jason Smith, Facilitator, is Associate Pastor at First Church of the Nazarene in Oklahoma City, OK.

Youth ministry is constantly evolving, blazing a path into the uncharted future stretching before the broader church. New challenges require a capacity to adapt well and quickly. This workshop explores some of the changes and adaptations required in preaching to youth in a post-modern society, in fostering community across racial and socio-economic lines, and in approaching the task of pastoral ministry. This session is for both lead pastors and youth pastors.

Travis Lee serves as Pastor of Student Ministries at Trinity Church of the Nazarene, Oklahoma City, OK. A graduate of SNU and NTS, he is a veteran youth pastor with 15 years of experience ministering in urban and suburban contexts, churches large and small.
The Sermon on the Mount has long been regarded as one of the primary texts shaping the life of the Church. This workshop focuses on exploring approaches to this text, highlighting resources for study, and finding ways to move from the text to transformational application of the Sermon in the life of the congregation.

Jim Fitzgerald served for 28 years in pastoral ministry prior to becoming Chair of the School of Theology and Christian Ministry at Southern Nazarene University in 2017. His PhD is in homiletics and American church history from Vanderbilt University.

Leslie Hart is an ordained elder serving children and families through local and district ministry, currently as Global Children’s Bible Quizzing Coordinator and SDMI Children’s Ministries Coordinator for the USA/Canada Region. She led the development of Nazarene Safe, the denomination’s comprehensive sexual abuse prevention program.

Don Walter serves as director of Pensions and Benefits USA for the Church of the Nazarene. He is a graduate of MidAmerica Nazarene University, Nazarene Theological Seminary, and Webster University, and received an honorary doctorate from Nazarene Bible College in 2006. He served pastorates in Ohio, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia.

Sunie Stolhand, Facilitator, is pastor of First Church of the Nazarene, Ponca City, OK.

Steve and his wife, Carol, live in Nampa, Idaho. Bonnie Beam is Assistant Director of The COMPASS Initiative as well as associate pastor of Grace Church of the Nazarene in Kansas City. Previously she served as an associate pastor of congregations in Kansas and Massachusetts.

The father-son duo – seasoned Nazarene educator, Roger Hahn, and young Nazarene clergy, Tim Hahn – discuss contemporary issues of holiness in 2018. They present perspectives of biblical and systematic theology along with traditional and contemporary views, concluding with their hopes for the Church of the Nazarene in representing the holiness message in the coming decades.

Roger Hahn is Professor of New Testament and the Willard H. Taylor Chair of Biblical Theology at Nazarene Theological Seminary. He has taught 39 years in Nazarene higher education focusing on applying biblical studies to life in the church. Tim Hahn is a graduate of Southern Nazarene University and Nazarene Theological Seminary, and has pastored in Kansas City, Philadelphia, and Boston. Currently, he is a PhD student in theology at Boston University.
